Kanari is a mobile culinary assistant for African cuisine, published by JAABA LLC. This page explains how your personal data is collected, used, and protected when you use the Kanari app.

2. Data Collected

Kanari collects the following information:

Account information: name, email address, phone number.
Culinary profile: dietary preferences, restrictions, diets, household composition, country of residence.
Payment data: transaction information processed by Wave, Orange Money, Stripe, Bictorys, or PawaPay. Kanari never stores card numbers or PIN codes.
User content: favorite recipes, community posts, profile photos (camera access).
Technical data: device type, operating system, unique identifier, usage logs.
Push notifications: notification token for sending reminders and updates.

3. Data Usage

This data is used to:

Generate your personalized meal plans and shopping lists.
Process your subscriptions and payments securely.
Send you reminder notifications and transactional emails (confirmations, verification codes).
Power the Amina culinary assistant and improve recommendations through artificial intelligence.
Analyze app usage in aggregate to improve Kanari's services.
Transcribe voice searches to provide relevant results.
Ensure your account security and prevent fraud.
Comply with JAABA LLC's legal obligations.

4. Data Sharing

Kanari never sells personal data. Data may be shared with:

Payment providers: Wave, Orange Money, Stripe, Bictorys, PawaPay for transaction processing.
Artificial intelligence: third-party AI services power the Amina culinary assistant (recipe suggestions, meal planning, chat). Messages sent to Amina, culinary preferences, and household composition may be transmitted to these services to generate personalized responses. No directly identifying data (email, phone number) is sent to these services.
Email delivery: a third-party provider handles transactional emails (verification codes, confirmations). Only your email address and first name are shared.
Usage analytics: an analytics service measures app usage in aggregate. This data is anonymized and never used for advertising purposes.
Voice transcription: when you use voice search, the audio recording is sent to a third-party transcription service to convert it to text. Audio is not retained after processing.
Hosting and infrastructure: secure servers and cloud storage services to host your data and shared images.
Legal authorities: only when required by law.

All Kanari partners are required to protect data according to strict standards.

5. Data Security

Kanari implements strict security measures: encrypted communications (TLS), secure password storage, OTP code authentication. However, no internet transmission is completely secure, but Kanari does everything to minimize risks.

6. App Permissions

Kanari may request the following permissions on your device:

Camera: to take profile or recipe photos.
Notifications: for meal reminders and updates.
Storage: to save images offline.
Microphone: for voice recipe search.

You can revoke these permissions at any time in your device settings.

7. Your Rights

You have the right to access, rectify, delete, restrict processing, and request portability of your personal data. You can delete your account directly from the App or by contacting us.

8. Data Retention

Your data is retained as long as your account is active. After account deletion, we delete your personal data within 30 days, unless legally required to retain it.
